Hi! I’m Tara Menon Pattilachan, a 2nd year undergraduate student at the University of Central Florida. I’m nineteen. I was born in Kerala, India, and I’m a neuroscience and AI researcher, freelance journalist-writer-poet (3 in 1 combo), and aspiring innovator. I’d like to make a difference in the world someday, but for now, I’ll settle with learning as much as I can about the world.
As a freelance journalist and writer, I have bylines in Teen Vogue, Huffington Post, VRScout, StartUp Health, Broglie Box, The Drabble and a few others. I constantly pitch throughout the year, get rejected (a lot), but I’m excited to be part of science communication, sharing stories, and uplifting voices. Feel free to contact me if you're interested in journalism and learning the art of the pitch. I was a journalism fellow with StartUp Health for Summer 2020, and I was a AARP Freelance Journalism fellow. I’m currently working on creating the first science/tech publication at UCF.
I’m very passionate about teaching and sharing knowledge, so I’m currently a TA for Organic Chemistry 1, and previously TA’d for Biology 1 and do local tutoring. I value education equity, and I’m currently working on developing an Udemy course, scheduled for release by the end of Spring 2021.
I’m a hopeful polyglot — though fluent in my native language, Malayalam, I’m still learning languages like Spanish, Hindi, Korean, Russian, Chinese and French. Adjacent to my interest in languages and linguistics, I also enjoy reading up on history, theology, philosophy and political books, though I am open to every genre. Feel free to drop me a message if you have any book recommendations!
Other things I love: family, friends, mentors, thought-provoking and inspirational films, contemporary modern architecture & design, art & art history, K-pop, manga, playing music, orchestral film scores, and deep conversations.
